Up in the Mouth

The laws of physics and evolutionist theories served as a starting point for the creation of Céu na Boca (Up in the mouth), the latest piece of Quasar Dance Company. This new performance discusses the relationship between the paradise that we desire and the reality that is offered to us, concluding that it’s best to enjoy life as it is. Thus, the eight dancers from this company in Goiás, Brazil, bring to the stage a series of antitheses peculiar to human existence, to create parallels between heaven (as an ideal but intangible place) and one’s mouth (as a metaphor for tangible reality). Humor and drama, movement and non-movement, contemporary electronic music and 50’s big band music are further paradoxes featured in this piece.
